Mary the mother of Jesus was a young woman, newly married who committed her life to the service of the LORD according to the word of God through the angel Gabriel. Without hesitation or questioning, Mary said “Behold, the handmaid of the Lord; be it to me according to your word…”
David, the ancestor of our Lord Jesus Christ was a young man who accepted the anointing of Samuel the prophet to be the king of Israel as instructed by the Lord, also without hesitation or questioning. In fact, he went to live with the then king, Saul and endured much suffering and near death at his hands but he refused to run away, curse or kill king Saul. When we know that we are on God’s destiny pathway for our lives we must be willing to endure all that we encounter, including afflictions for He who called us and began a good work in us will see us through to the expected end of victory.
For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! (2 Corinth. 4:17 NLT)
Mary and David were among the young of their day whose hearts had been prepared in every area of their lives to say
“…be it to me according to your word, LORD!”
Brothers and sisters, may we live our lives with the same attitude. Some of you may have had born again Christian mothers and fathers and brought you up in a Christ centred home with the reverential fear of the LORD so that saying “…be it to me according to your word, LORD!” is something you have been doing on a daily basis without hesitation or question, I give glory to God with you.
There are also those among you who did not have parents who were born again Christians or if they professed to be, their faith was not central to their lifestyles. However, you have been led to the LORD by His sovereign hand, some of you, from your youth and others from adulthood and have learnt to let God have His way without hesitation or questioning. I also glorify the LORD with you for looking at your lives you can see how He walked you through and brought you out of darkness into the Kingdom of Light of His dear Son Jesus Christ.
Whatever group you may be a part of, I have a question for you now, is there anything that may be causing you, in this time of your life to hesitate and question the instructions of the LORD so that you are unable to utter the words “…be it to me according to your word, LORD!” with the same zeal or effort as you did in the past?
The instructions are either what is written in His Word or what he has spoken to you personally in your devotional time. They could also be what has been told you prophetically by a true prophet of the LORD.
They could be something small or even great depending on your understanding and you are hesitating or questioning God rather than activating your faith in obedience. Some of your hesitation may be because you are unsure as to whether it is really the LORD speaking, or even if you are sure it is Him, you lack the confidence or you don’t think you have the skills or time to carry out what you discern He is instructing you to do.
Dear brothers and sisters in the LORD, I want to encourage you today by reminding you that self doubt, the cares of this world and busyness of our day are enemies to fulfilling the will of the LORD for your life. It is important to hear this as we enter the month when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ so that we do not get caught up in the secular commercial frenzy associated with Christmas. Even as a true believer in Jesus, one can be easily destructed from focusing on the real reason for the season.
When you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you became as Mary his mother a “womb” or an instrument to birth righteousness into a dying world, to be the Light of the World (Matt.5:14-16) as Jesus Christ came to be (John 8:12) and so with the life of God within you, you are able to give life to the spiritual dead and physically sick as Jesus did when he walked the earth.
Brethren please do not take your calling lightly. Awake and receive strength from your God this day, shake off any attempts of the enemy to cause you have make excuses or discourage you from surrendering to God’s will. David and Mary are among our role models who willingly surrendered their lives.
The time is short and there is much work to be done as the harvest field of souls is ripe: many are suffering at satan’s hands with no way of escape and you and I have been chosen by God to be the means through whom they would meet the Father and reconcile with Him.
As David who became king of Israel and through Jesus Christ who inherited the throne as “King of the Jews” from the Royal line of David, you are a king and priest unto God (Rev 1:6/5:10) in your born again nature, so which one of the enemies of God can withstand you ? None!
Arise, put on your dancing shoes and explode in praise and worship unto your God. Open your mouth in declaring who He is to you and who you are to Him as well as your authority in Christ Jesus!
I decree and declare that whether you are male or female nothing will stop you from the daily proclamation of
“Behold…be it to me according to your word…”!
I proclaim these words as an exhortation and blessing into your lives from henceforth:
“Arise, shine for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.” (Is. 60:1-3 KJV)
“Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean. Shake thyself from the dust; arise, [and] sit down, O Jerusalem: loose thyself from the bands of thy neck, O captive daughter of Zion.” (Is. 52:1-2 KJV)
You are blessed, determine to stay blessed.
