Obedience: A key to being a true witness – to display God’s “wisdom & intelligence”

Deut. 4:6

Something to grasp a hold of today; to be a true witness of God, it suffices to obey the commandments of God. When we obey God we display His “wisdom and intelligence” in all we do.

This is because we are bearing witness to who God is; His laws or doctrines confirm His  nature or attributes. When we obey God we are transformed so that our mindset, attitudes, and actions glorify God.

Moses said Israel would display their “wisdom and intelligence” (Deut. 4:6 NLT)  among the surrounding nations if they obeyed God’s commands just before they crossed into the promised land. Moses said the people who hear about Israel’s decrees will exclaim ‘How wise and prudent are the people of this great nation!’ (Deut.4:6 NLT).

Obedience to God by His people therefore makes a way for His “wisdom and intelligence” to be displayed through them and the world inevitably takes notice.

When we obey God, the words of our mouth also give Him glory because we seek to please Him in not only what we do but what we say.

Jesus glorified God not only by his actions but with his words. He was a true witness because he knew his purpose. How well do we know our purpose?

When Jesus spoke to the crowd and in the synagogues many were astonished at what he said, they said “he taught them as [one] having authority, and not as the scribes” (Matthew 7:29 KJV) also after he read from Isaiah 61, “they wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?”.(Luke 4:22 KJV)

Jesus said that he only did what he saw the Father doing (John 5:19) and said only what the Father told him to say (John 12:49).

Jesus’ manner of teaching which was bold, as one with authority and with gracious words in the face of adversity reveal that he was an unrelenting prophetic channel of God for the fulfilment of God’s plans and purposes. Do we take a radical fearless stand against any attempts to derail us from our God given mission as Jesus did?

As Jesus, who made it possible for us, we are called to display the wisdom and intelligence of God in what we say and do because we have access to God directly and through His Word. We therefore know our calling as believers in Christ. Living as a witness for God through Christ should therefore be seen as a gift and a privilege because it is a product of the gift of salvation.

Exercising our authority over demonic control and possession, sickness and oppression as well as preaching, teaching and speaking boldly for Christ are all ways in which we are privileged to witness for Christ, do the works of Jesus and even greater works. Whatever we may call it, the truth of the matter is that we are individually playing our part in displaying the “wisdom and intelligence” of God as labourers of Christ in his harvest field.

Let us therefore remain obedient so as to continue being harvesters as well as making the fields all over the world ever ready for harvest.

In addition, let us also obey this call  to prayer: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.”(Luke 10:2 NLT)

You are blessed, determine to stay blessed!
