The Way, The Truth & The Life

“I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine”

His only begotten Son He sent to prove His love for me. A Son so compassionate,

he took my place on a tree, with nail pierced limbs and blood drenched scars,

He gave up the ghost. I was with him in betrayal, mockery and shame.

One with him in the grave, released by his power free to escape on his train.

I am with him in liberty. One with him in glory, with the keys of heaven and earth, forever to conquer and reign.

Free from shackles of sin, with a signet ring betrothed to my redeemer groom,

forever to sing: “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine”

How to be a Thriving Holy City of God.

Key scriptures: Psalm 46:1-4 & the book of Nehemiah
Psalm 46:1-4

1God [is] our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3[Though] the waters thereof roar [and] be troubled, [though] the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4[There is] a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High.

GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH
As believers in Christ we are God’s dwelling place through him. Jesus Christ prayed for God to send each one who believes in him the Holy Spirit and this is why believers have the indwelling Holy Spirit that comforts, guides and testifies of Jesus Christ, reminding us of Jesus’ teachings as well as reveals, teaches and counsels the mind and will of God.

Worshippers of God who is Spirit that worship Him “in spirit and in truth” are true worshippers (John 4:23-24) or true believers in Jesus Christ.
They acknowledge the importance of the Holy Spirit as God Himself on one hand and the power or anointing of God on the other.

The Holy Spirit indwelling believers in Jesus Christ since the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1) is therefore an affirmation that God Himself is indwelling those who accept to be His City or Holy place/tabernacle when they accept Jesus Christ as LORD and Saviour.
They welcome the presence of God in their lives by virtue of being obedient followers of Jesus Christ. The key word is obedience.

God who is in the midst of the lives of His children (Psalm 46:4) is our “refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”. Whatever troubles that exist or come our way will not cause us to fear (Psalm 46:1-3).
Our God is a “man of war”; his nature as a warrior is expressed in His names: Jehovah Gibbor (The LORD is Mighty: a Mighty Man of War), Jehovah Nissi (The LORD my Banner, Standard or Standard Bearer), Jehovah Sabaoth (The LORD of hosts or the Armies of Heaven, Jehovah Sabaoth).

Even when He commands us to do something or to depart from sin, God does not send us on our own. As our strength and refuge He goes ahead of us and is also our rear guard (Isaiah 52:10-12). Being a very present help in times of trouble reveals who He is; a God of everlasting love and faithfulness.

“3The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” (Jer. 31:3 KJV).

GOD MAKES US GLAD
“There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy [place] of the tabernacles of the most High.”(Psalm 46:4 KJV).

Applying verse 4 prophetically we can state what is true, that believers in Christ are God’s Holy City, individually and collectively.  Our calling is therefore to daily reflect in the here and now, through holy living in Christlikeness, the Holy City of God, the New Jerusalem that will at the end of the age (Rev. 21:2) come “down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband”.
Regardless of professing to be a Christian, without living a life of holiness as God commanded believers in Christ to live (1 Peter 1:15-16/Lev. 11:44-45) one cannot be a dweller in the “tabernacle of God” (Rev 21:3) that is to come among God’s people.

The river of Psalm 46:4 is likened to the Holy Spirit within the believer of Christ “Holy City of God”.
As stated God is Spirit so we can see that the river also speaks of God Himself. God is in us, God is with us, Emmanuel.

What does this river of God or God do? He who is within us, God’s holy place. God makes us glad.
What does Glad mean? Happy, delighted and pleased.

God is Spirit and permeates every area of the life of the believer in Christ who allows Him to. This way God reclaims every area of the life of His children that Satan has held bound. This is demonstrated by the indwelling Holy Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead imparting resurrection life in a Christian’s body so that they are activated and energised to constantly fulfil their predestined purpose on earth according to the will of God (Romans 8:11).

Satan is a thief, the agent of oppression and depression, as we know there is no pleasure, delight or happiness in anything Satan has to offer us!

In contrast Jesus came to liberate us from the oppression and depression of Satan and to make us glad or fill us with the joy of the LORD. He came to give us abundant life (John 10:10). Jesus Christ alone can quench the “thirst” of the thirsty. Who are they?  those who are in need of salvation from a life lived for self or Satan that affirms they lack the living waters of God, the river of life.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit to the spiritually thirsty (fulfilled on the day of Pentecost) as follows:

“In the last day, that great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (John 7:37-38 KJV).

When we have Christ in our lives, we have God with us and in us because God and Christ are one. Jesus said “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30).

In God’s presence there is fullness of joy and pleasures forever more (Psalm 16:11). Yes our God and Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit make us glad.

GOD HAS CONDITIONS
Let us be reminded daily that we are not saved to just sit in our laurels and do nothing. There are conditions that God requires in order for His works, protection and joy or gladness to be sustained and abundant in our lives.

Some are as follows:

1. OBEDIENCE
Continuous obedience to God’s commands sustains our ability to abide in God’s love as Jesus did. Jesus told the aforementioned to his disciples then, also a message for any one who is his disciple from Jesus’ time, because he knew that this was the only way they could have the sustained fullness of God given joy that is humanly possible. Obedience is indeed key. It results in God’s presence and love (John 15:10-11/John 14:21,23) being made manifest in our lives and produces a sustained exuberance of supernatural joy of the LORD! That is what the gladness of the river of God means in a nutshell!

2. PRIORITISING PRAYER & BEING PREPARED TO BE USED BY GOD IN HIS ANSWER TO BURDENS PRAYED.

Another key condition is to prioritise prayer. Nehemiah who left Persia to became governor of Judah and led the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls and gates project prioritised prayer throughout his mission.
The priority of prayer works wonders! Nehemiah’s successful mission is due to his fervent prayer life.  When we study the book of Nehemiah, we realise that apart from praying on the onset having heard about the state of Jerusalem, he prayed regularly throughout the rebuilding project (e.g. chapter 1:5-11, 4:4-5, 5:19,6:9).
What burden do you have as a Christian? Do you have a burden to pray for the unsaved, abused children or the poor? Whatever it is, God also requires you to seek to hear from Him about what part you can play in being part of the solution of what burdens your heart. After all that burden is God given and believers in Christ are mandated to be his hands and feet.
Nehemiah did not only express his grief concerning the state of Jerusalem and desire for change by praying to God but he responded in the affirmative to the God given urge within him to return and lead the building project. Prioritising prayer results in us being close to Father God so that we are sensitive to his voice and prompting so as to make do His bidding and make wise decisions.
Nehemiah gained and made use of God given wisdom and discernment. Following prayer to God, he was able to ask the King of Persia exactly what he would need on his journey back to Jerusalem (Nehemiah 2:4-8). He also knew when his enemies were planning to lie against him and also when they were planning to kill him (Neh. 6:5-12). As a result he was able to prevent himself from being trapped or cornered, avoiding death and therefore the thwarting of the plan of God through him. God gave him strategies so that he and the builders were protected from their enemies (Neh. 4:16-23).
Nehemiah by prioritising prayer had intimacy with God and this is why he was a highly effective leader in many ways. As we can see God was Nehemiah’s “refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1-3 KJV).

God was also Nehemiah’s giver of joy in the midst of great affliction so that He was able to encourage the grieving people with the following words:
“…Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for [this] day [is] holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” (Neh. 8:10 KJV).

PRAYER BURDENS VERSES PREDESTINED CALL OF GOD.
Every believer in Christ has one or more predestined mandates to accomplish in their lifetime on earth.

The burdens God gives you to pray about are very rarely apart from your fundamental predestined call of God. They more often than not affirm that you are indeed called for that particular purpose which will present itself in different ways.

After all as a believer in Jesus Christ you are mandated to do his works and even greater works than he did on earth (John 14:12) by the enabling of the Holy Spirit “The river of God”.

We, God’s children are His workmanship with many promises, personal and ministerial which when we partner with Him without constraint we will see come to pass in our lives.
Below are key scriptures to receive as prophetic promises in our hearts for meditation and encouragement as we fulfil our God given mandate on earth.

Isaiah 58:11-12:
“…the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.12And [they that shall be] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. (KJV)

Isaiah 61:1-7:

1The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound; 2To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. 4And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.5And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien [shall be] your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6But ye shall be named the Priests of the LORD: [men] shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.7For your shame [ye shall have] double; and [for] confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them. (KJV).

Tears of Repentance for Revival “Rain”

Revival of our churches & nations will come only if believers in Christ relentlessly repent and so seek inner personal revival daily. We, members of Christ hold the key to not only church wide but nation/worldwide revival. May our own lives “house” be in order so that we effectively fulfil the great commission according to the will of God and experience a mighty revival “rain” of God’s Spirit. Amen!!

Receive God’s Peace Like a River

peace to youReceive God’s Peace like a River in and through you! I pray for God’s peace to flow in a never ending manner like a river that forms tributaries into the recesses of your soul (mind, intellect and emotions) so that you would experience a perpetual Sabbath rest of the LORD.

In this place, you will receive revelation from the LORD directly and through His Word so that out of you shall flow rivers of living waters quenching the spiritual thirst of dry souls and hearts making a people ready for the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

There is no peace like God’s peace. Attempts at world peace without God as the source is just a charade and superficial for sooner or later confusion and chaos sets in. This is why Jesus explicitly distinguished his peace from that of the world when he said such comforting words
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27KJV)

As a believer in Christ you have His mind which means your mind or thoughts are focused on God. You therefore have access to God’s peace (Is.26:3) which is perfect.

God speaks His peace in every situation of your life, however He requires that you do not “again turn to folly” (Ps 85:8).

To live a life in God’s perpetual peace, He wants you to know that you need to be determined to overcome anxiety. How? Prayer to God concerning all things (Phil 4:6), while praying be thankful of what you have already received from Him. If you can’t think of anything in a moment how about your life? Your caring child, spouse, family or your job ? Also trust Him once you have prayed. It is only after you have done this that
“…the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”(Phil 4:7)
God of Peace be with you!

✝ Poem – Receive the Master’s Peace

Be anxious for nought and pray for what you ought. God’s peace will unfold as a treat,if a slave to worry you are not.

Peace like a barging river, shall knock down fortes of
deceit in your heart to
cause the enemy to retreat.

Peace like a fighter plane shall land on the combat fields of your soul to dethrone the Prince of this World, end the cycle of disorder to commence divine order.

A peace foreign to this world in chaos because it knows not it’s Master and his ethos.

Who is it’s Master?

He is the Prince of Peace who saith to his own “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you”.

On a mount he sat and taught
“blessed are the peacemakers they shall be called children of God” So be blessed, not stressed.

Do not retaliate but demonstrate his love to haters.
Trade anger with prayer for users and live to unite dividers. With your mates create colonies in a bond of peace and be the harmonies to iron out melodious creases.

Blessed vessel of peace, wrestle for the increase of God’s government and peace to have no end.

(Isaiah 9:6-7, Phil 4:6-7

Small Beginnings make way for great things!

Note: This is part of Psalm 8 “God is mindful of man” Series: Creator God & His Mindfulness of Humanity including their Interpersonal Relationships. Meaning? He works to restore their relationship with Him through Christ which inevitably and simultaneously includes working for unity, love & peace with one another John 17:21.

Introduction

Feeling small in your own eyes, unsure or insecure in regards to your ability to excel?

Well it’s time for a mindset change because the God who created you created you with the potential to excel for you have a calling (everyone does) which is declared ready to breakout and advance when you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. Even if you do not feel “small in your own eyes”, it is important to receive assurance from time to time by being reminded of God’s ability to give us supernatural strength and wisdom by his power to stay joyful and encouraged in a world that is full of discouragement and affliction.

If you are not a Christian this inspirational teaching or exhortation is also for you as it will reveal to you that through accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and saviour, God is able to take you as he did Jesus from humble beginnings or small works for his sake to a place of doing more so as to glorify Him and His kingdom even more.

With Jesus as our greatest example, we can rest assured, if we stay abiding in God, that there is no affliction we cannot overcome nor any great feat we cannot accomplish.

If you think you are from humble beginnings and therefore because of that God cannot use you for anything let alone great things, then think again!
From the Gospels we see that Jesus Christ is our greatest example of one who came from a humble background and trained to be a carpenter in his youth, yet he had great wisdom and was able to debate in the synagogue with religious leaders.
God came into the world in the person of Jesus Christ in a way that the Jewish leaders were not expecting for they expected a Messiah to appear as a notable figure who would help them defeat Roman Empire dominion.
Instead he came into the world as a “nobody” in the eyes of the unbelieving Jews. Yes he was from the Royal line of David as we read of Joseph’s genealogy but his parents were not conspicuous figures and he was born in a manger! In fact he chose to live in Nazareth for a while which appeared not to have had a good reputation, for it was said of it “can anything good come out of Nazareth?” as spoken by Nathanael (John 1:46).

Perhaps people have said that about your family, locality or nation but have you thought that you were chosen to be from among them because God wants to use you and so surprise the world that indeed someone worthy can come out of such a place?
Jean Francois Champollion had such a passion for ancient languages, he eventually solved a mystery that none of the world’s great scholars had been able to solve which was deciphering the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt. Where was this man from? A small inconspicuous town called Figeac in south west France.
God is not a respector of persons. He will not decide to choose someone to anoint or use for great works based on what nation, race, social or economic class status they are a part of which are deemed respectable or preferable in the eyes of man.
Who can instruct God? He chooses who He chooses, for instance in Old Testament scriptures we read how God chose Jacob over Esau his brother and Ephraim over Manasseh his brother to impart the blessings of the first born child although Esau and Manasseh were the oldest sons. It may not make sense but He is God and does as He pleases, His ways are higher than those of man although they may be foolish to man.
If you are a believer who has a habit of putting yourself down which includes your God given abilities, I say it is time for change!

The size of your talents, gifts, anointing or capabilities may be small in your own eyes but God does not rate them the way you do. If Jesus says a mustard seed sized faith can move mountains, likewise a mustard seed anointing or gift so to speak can do the same. Is the faith in God and anointing or capability for service not from the same source?

Be reminded that how we see things are not as He sees them, so it is time we took stock so as to enter into a new season of life where we see as God does. The question we should be asking ourselves is, whose spiritual “lenses” or “hearing aid” do we have on? By “lenses” or “hearing aid” I mean perception which is defined as “the ability to see, hear or become aware of something through the senses” however in this context the question is who has control over our senses ? Is it God ourselves and/or the devil? The sanctification process involves our senses coming under God’s control so that what we see, hear and become aware of are understood from God’s perspective or outlook because our senses are sanctified.

The spiritual “lenses” or “hearing aid” (perception) with the tagline “I can achieve great things” are from God of course, and enables you to see yourself as a mighty man or woman of valor as Gideon (see Judges 6) was. Gideon also had to come to the place where he saw himself as God saw him before he could be used mightily by God.

Often times even as born again believers, we still have the “I am small in my own eyes” perception. This can be a constant attitude or when something major happens to bring discouragement.

Some of the reasons why such debasing self perception takes place and affects our Christian walk are :

1. How we were made to see ourselves as children by family members or peers.

2. The result of a particularly traumatic experience which affected us to the point that we lost our confidence in one or more areas.

3. The habit of looking at other people and allowing the enemy to cause us to think that who they are in terms of their appearance, social standing, popularity riches etc…means they are more worthy or better than who we are.

The bible says we are heirs of the kingdom of God which Jesus (Matthew 13:45-46) compared to a pearl of great price found in a field by a merchant who so wanted it that he sold all he had and bought the whole field! Goodness ! Just reflect on the magnitude of your preciousness to God through Jesus Christ as a member of the “pearl of great price” kingdom of God!

God values us as he does Jerusalem and will not relent until your “brightness” or who you are predefined to be, by him comes forth (Is. 62:1) and you are as a crown of glory and a royal diadem in His hand (Is. 62:3). The Lord can impress such scriptures on our hearts when he wants to comfort or encourage us as is my personal testimony.

As a believer in Jesus, you are His workmanship through Jesus Christ and therefore anointed for service. If you don’t know already seek God in prayer as to what exactly he has called you to partake of in church and the community for His glory. Everyone who is God’s through Christ Jesus has a part to play in the Body of Christ, without your active service something vital and therefore important to God will not get done.

Dear Father

we ask for forgive if we have placed limitations on what you can do in and through us.

As we abide in you LORD, our desire is to do your will and so to fulfill your calling on our lives. We therefore ask today that you would do a deep work in us daily so that our spiritual “lenses” and “hearing aid” are cleansed. In this way we are able to see, hear and become aware of things from your standpoint especially how we perceive ourselves. We thank you for the Holy Spirit who indwells us and reminds us daily of Jesus’ teachings and communicates your will to us. Help us to live a life in the Spirit so that we partner with you for the fulfillment of all that you are doing in our lives.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
You are blessed, determine to stay blessed.
