PREFACE:
The Witness is a collection of poetry, spoken word and poetic (fictitious) stories. They represent what the author, Deborah Esther Nyamekye calls “sights and sounds” of our world and “echoes” of the human heart and mind, all unlocked by poetic expression.  They span a period of 35 years of Deborah’s life, starting from 1984 to 2019.

The poems are written from a sensitive place of observing and reflecting on the goings on in the world, gleaning from and partaking of life in all its joys and hardships and from a place of hope for a harmonious world where wellness, prosperity and brotherly love prevails.

There is a unique use of poetic prose to cover a wide range of topics that include social issues for reflection and to raise awareness such as homelessness, drugs, bullying, self-worth, mental health, domestic and child abuse to general topics about people, scenery, faith, war, peace, love and blessings etc…

Deborah is a story teller and some of her poems read as fictitious autobiographies and biographies in poetic prose. These are glimpses of people’s real life stories that serve as proverbs, give cause for concern, tag at our heart strings or result in empathy and compassion enough to mobilise us to be effective voices or act in ways whether great or small for the betterment of society. The poems speak volumes about humanity and the world we live in. Many a reader will be able to identity personally or in some way with one or more of the poems.
