Poetic Redemption Storytelling
Introduction
After watching CEO and inspirational speaker and best selling author Lisa Nicholâs inspiring video (check it out on the Gold cast Facebook page or You Tube) of a life transformed after suffering domestic abuse by her fiancĂ©, I felt inspired to engage in some scribal indulgence telling a story of redemption but from a view point that considers the abuserâs mindset and triggers, not as a means of justification but shedding some light on some of the âhidden demonsâ in play in such situations.
The Caged Birdâs Escape:
Desired with his enticing eyes, colourful words and decorated with roses and alluring scents she felt on top, the executive of his heart, the CEO of his life.
In one night her dreams had come true; from reams of beauties she was chosen by one of the Hedge-Fund crew.
To him she was just meat, one of many slaughtered for devouring, bought in a club in one of many spending sprees he called sport.
A business man, bonus acquiring sharp talker in the square mile by day and by night a gigolo, a Casanova in clubs he called âcattle marketsâ bidding with his eyes for the best cow.. he laughs âthatâs the woman- A COW!â
Flashes of his mother often appeared before his eyes, waving to him, a 6 year old âmummy is going to the shop, I will returnâ She never did.. âliars all of themâ!
Sly as a fox, an expert in his game, he waited until the image of her was locked in him, he, a mirror that defined her significance. Now he had god-like relevance, the Fowlerâs cage was her home.
One day was as living in a romantic play pen; his voice soft and soothing and to love songs they were waltzing.
Another was life in a torture chamber under a man-childâs bitter verbal whip and slaps with hate-filled vomit until she suffocated in fear and self hate. Every morning she braced herself for what was amiss, the ready for work psychoâs bullets of abuse and punches in her abdomen with a goodbye kiss.
A cycle of confused voices reeled in the cage âI love youâ, âI love you notâ as the battered bird wailed without a sound. In his âyou are to blame! blame! blame! she felt grief and shame! shame! shame!
A rude awakening was the uncontrollable pain in her abdomen. The day of reckoning had come for from the abyss of farce living she heard the voices of many women thundering âcall the ambulance or die!â The freedom fighter from deep within joined in, beckoning.
âHow are you today, my dear?â
Startled, she opened her eyes and saw a face beaming at her âI am Claireâ
âClaire?â
âYes, I am your nurse, you called the ambulance, they broke in âcause you fainted after the call. Julie, your internal wounds and bleeding were serious. Thank God you came on time! You will be fineâ
Julie shut her eyes. Smiling the risen woman within spoke:
âYes thank God!
To a âA just in timeâ God: thank you!
I was that woman destined for a bright future based on scripture, even the prophetic word, then I lost my way and met a trickster and by him I became nothing but a caged bird in a home any woman would dread.
I was able to walk away, escape from the snare of the Fowler, but for him in compassion I daily kneel to pray and for caged birds unlike me who for reasons choose to stay, I shall sing a song of deliverance, that one day sunshine shall overtake the dark clouds of their circumstance.â
âOur soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.â

After praying for a woman who had a tumour as large as an unborn child and she was healed (in the 1800s), John G Lake (pastor, healing minister & evangelist) an American who also ministered and lived in South Africa and founded the Healing Rooms in Spokane Washington D.C said
“What is a miracle? it is the tangible evidence of the supreme control of the Spirit of God over every character and form of materiality.

I woke up this morning thinking “Jesus mends nets”. I remembered that Jesus called James and John at the time when they were with their father in their fishing boat mending their nets (Math.4:21).
Jesus’ purpose was to “mend” their lives by making them his disciples so that they would in turn “mend” other people’s lives, by becoming fishers of men. He is continuing God the Father’s “Mending Nets” business today through the power of the Holy Spirit in all the earth and at work within born again believers.
What do “nets” symbolically mean here? Our capabilities, mindsets, attitudes and emotions that have been afflicted or tattered by the enemy, whether before we become Christians or even during our Christian walk.
This could have been either at home, school, church or work.
Some of these afflictions are from childhood through to adulthood because of what people did to us, also how we responded as well as what we were taught which has influenced our way of thinking, attitudes and understanding.
Jesus came to do what he saw the Father doing or what God gave him the authority to do. His “mending nets” business is clearly expressed and summarised in Isaiah 61:1-3:
1The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. 2He has sent me to tell those who mourn
that the time of the LORDâs favor has come, and with it, the day of Godâs anger against their enemies.
3To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes,
a joyous blessing instead of mourning,festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the LORD has planted for his own glory. (NLT).
Such people, having been “mended” will be called in service as “menders” or rebuilders as Jesus, their destinies are also expressed as follows:Â Isaiah 61:4
4They will rebuild the ancient ruins,
repairing cities destroyed long ago.
They will revive them,
though they have been deserted for many generations. (NLT).
Another scripture that comes to mind is Acts 10:38
“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (NLT).
In addition to healing the sick, the “Good” is all that Father God told Jesus to do in order to “mend” lives such as teachings (I.e perfecting the Law of Moses, how to pray), deliverance of the demon possessed and spending time with society’s rejects so that they know they are loved and valued.
Jesus’ “mending” (restoring or rebuilding) business as we know is necessary for us to be saved and then grow to maturity as children of God, thus capable of fulfilling our God given identities and destinies. We each have a part to play in the Body of Christ and the world at large.
Some people have found their God given purpose in life, some are on the way to doing so and others don’t have a clue. There are also those who think they do one day, but then they are not sure the next day!
Whatever category you fall into, know that God is at work in you however it may feel like or appear to take you to even greater depths in your relationship with Him than you are experiencing right now.
I sense God wants you to know that as long as you stay in His Word through study and obedience daily, you will receive all that He has for you and will fulfil your God given purpose. He will abide with you as you abide with Him (John 14:21,23). The heavenly portals of revelation knowledge, wisdom and understanding will be open to you because of your obedience and faithfulness.
This is my encouragement to you as I do to myself, that you would live a life of worship, singing praises unto God in fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Pray fervently for all things at all times, always be determined to trust God giving thanks regardless of the circumstance and do all you can to live at peace with others, loving them as God loves you.
From experience, I know forgiveness is difficult, but if you are struggling be honest before God about the pain you have suffered and tell him how you are finding it difficult to forgive but because you desire to obey His command that you forgive you choose to do so and ask for His supernatural power to enable this desire to be a reality. Nothing is impossible for our God,
Having “mended” us through salvation and raised us up, God is always on the look out for tears to our “nets”, the sooner we allow Him to mend then the better because the effective fulfilment of our mission is dependant on our wholeness.
